From November 08 to November 22
Sergiy Lebedynskyy of Shilo Group kicks off «Flaneur» residences at KAUNAS PHOTO
Between 8 and 22 of November KAUNAS PHOTO festival hosts the first artistic residence of “Flaneur – the new urban narratives”. Ukrainian photographer (based in Germany) Sergiy Lebedynskyy is the first in the line of 4 creators who will undertate a complicated project of documenting the busiest street in Kaunas, called Savanorių prospektas. The aim of "Flaneur" residencies in Kaunas is the creation of modern iconography and new visual language about the dynamic urbanscape of Kaunas and the lifestyle around it along with new ways of dialugue with the community in producing and exhibiting the work.
Both KAUNAS PHOTO festival director Mindaugas Kavaliauskas and the first "Flaneur" resident in Kaunas Sergiy Lebedynskyy agreed that the task is challenging. The street, its area does not have one single point of gravity, but it embodies the speed, complexity ephemerity of contemporary urban lifestyle.
The beginning of documentation project about Savanorių prospektas was launched by KAUNAS PHOTO festival back in 2009, when Lithuanian-American photographer, born in Kaunas, Darius Kuzmickas created a series of work called "Camera Obscura. Savanoriai”, megring views of interiors with those of streetviews and panoramas of Kaunas city, available from the buildings of one of the longest steets of Kaunas.
Works by Sergiy Lebedynskyy as member of photography group “Shilo” were a part of the 12th KAUNAS PHOTO festival. From July to November 2015, "Euromaidan” by Shilo Group was exhibited open air on Chechnya Square in Kaunas. "Shilo" group was founded in Ukraine, with an intention to reinvent the legendary Kharkiv school of photography. The group came to visibility after being nominated for the Discovery Award at the Rencontres d'Arles by Krzystof Candrowicz in 2015 and running a number of exhibitions - in Japan, Sweden, Germany.
urther artists chosen for "Flaneur" residence in Kaunas will be announced in the end of 2015. Works by "Flaneur" residents will be exhibited during the KAUNAS PHOTO festival in 2016.
KAUNAS PHOTO festival, since 2004, is the only annual art photography festival in the Baltic Countries, member of Festival of Light organisation and partner of “Flaneur. New Urban Narratives” project, co-funded by the “Creative Europe” program. KAUNAS PHOTO is mainly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Kaunas Municipality.
